Internships

The United Nations University (UNU) in Bonn recruits highly qualified applicants to work as interns at the different UNU entities in Bonn. Interns are recruited through a competitive application process through specific vacancy announcements or unsolicited applications for a minimum period of three months and a maximum period of six months. Enrolled students or recent graduates interested in the work of the United Nations and in particular the United Nations University are encouraged to apply.

  1. Information and Communication Technology Internship (UNU-ViE)

    The Campus Computing Centre Bonn (C3-Bonn) provides ICT services for all the UNU entities based in Bonn (UNU-ViE, UNU-EHS, UNU-IHDP and UNW-DPC). C3-Bonn seeks interns who are interested in getting acquainted with and taking an active part in the day-to-day operation of an ICT department. Interns will spend a minimum of six months working in the UNU Campus Computing Centre in Bonn to learn about our operations while assisting in our work.

    Responsibilities:

    • Providing 1st and 2nd Level IT Support;

    • Improve programming skills in HTML, CSS, PHP, XML, Javascript, RDMS(SQL);

    • Exploring viable ways of integrating more open source software into our computing environment and operations;

    • Information security and networking;

    • Explore Data mining techniques to improve information efficiency.

  2. UNW-DPC internship

    Under the authority of the Director of UNW-DPC and the supervision of the responsible Programme Officer, the successful candidate shall be entrusted with the following tasks:

    • Contribute to the maintenance and upgrading of the UN-Water Activity Information System (UNW-AIS);

    • Gain insight into the breadth of water-related e-learning products and services of the UN system;

    • Support the UNW-DPC team in various activities, in particular related to the UNW-DPC website, event and activity management, updating activity/participant databases and preparing input into reports and publications.

  3. IDEAS Section

    The IDEAS section of the United Nations University Vice Rectorate in Europe (UNU-ViE) aims at strengthening institutional growth of UNU in the world with particular emphasis on Europe, Africa and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). These institutional development issues are the core focus of the section and the Executive Office. The tasks of the successful applicant will be, among others:

    • Assist in the drafting and preparation of reports, visit agendas, correspondence, presentations, and other material relating to the Vice Rectorate’ s activities in Africa;
    • Proof-reading and copy-editing activities;
    • Support the Vice Rectorate’ s strategic planning and institutional development related activities.

  4. UNU-EHS: Where the Rain Falls project

    Within the UNU-EHS Where the Rain Falls project, the project intern will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities:

    • assist in the analyses of survey data using statistical packages (SPSS);

    • support writing reports on the household decision making of climate change.

  5. UNU-ViE: Priority Africa

    The United Nations University (UNU) plays a strategic role in Africa with regard to facilitation, capacity-building, postgraduate education and promoting innovation. The Priority Africa Initiative was adopted by the UNU Council in December 2008 with the aim of streamlining the University’s approach to its African-related work and is under the direct authority of the Vice Rector in Europe. The successful applicant will:

    • provide assistance in enhancing the Priority Africa website;

    • assist in drafting and editing English documents;
    • support with Priority Africa data collection process;
    • assist in all necessary academic and/or administrative tasks as the needs arise.

  6. IHDP internship

    The IHDP Secretariat is seeking an intern for a period of at least three months, starting as soon as possible.

    Responsibilities:

    The intern will assist the IHDP Project Officer in the following:

    • Servicing of requests and needs of the IHDP Scientific Committee, including preparation of the documentation to the Scientific Committee and other IHDP meetings;

    • Synthesizing and presenting key findings of IHDP research projects in the form of Summary for Decision Makers, policy briefs and the IHDP Update journal;

    • Liaison functions to IHDP scientific projects, partner programmes and other international bodies;
